Help Your 3-Year-Olds Deal with Nightmares

When your children reach three years old, they experience a rapid brain development, especially in the part that processes memory. As a result, they will have more dreams as well as nightmares.

Thus, sometimes your little ones will cry when they see ghosts or monsters in their bad dreams, no matter in day time or at night.

They may also be afraid to go back to sleep because they’re frightened of having nightmares again.

Help your children by doing these:

1. Calm your kids down so they will stop crying.

2. Give them comfort by hugging them and explaining what really happens; that those nightmares are not real.

3. Minimize the frequency of their horror-movie consumption.

4. As a substitution, give your little kids story books that motivate them to be brave in fighting monsters or ghosts.

5. If you already try those efforts, yet your little ones still have those nightmares, you should beware of stress symptoms that could happen to your kids. Consult it with a physician for a treatment.

Good luck!

[…] Poor little boy… I’m so sorry to hear about Parker, Jenmom. I remember you wrote about Parker (twice?) that he is your funny boy. I can’t imagine if he has to go through this fear. But, could it be a nightmare? I think I agree with the previous commenter, primarycolors. Maybe music can help Parker deal with his fear.Or, maybe you’d like to come over to my blog and see what you can do for your little man. It’s Help Your 3-Year-Olds Deal with Nightmares. Well, I know he’s not 3 already, but I do hope this could help him and you.I hope Kate and Ryland are fine.Much love,Adwina […]

ok, I have a 3 year old, she’s nearly 4. Nearly every night, she will have a dream about a monster man and try to come into my bed. I calm her down and help her get back to sleep, and only every on the rare occasion I’ll let her sleep with me. I’m careful because i don’t want her to get used to sleeping with me.
I talk her threw it and explain it was just a dream, and the monster man dose not exist.
She’s a really happy kid, with no worries. Yes I’m separated, but that was a while ago. Her dad is not in the picture, but i cant see how that would cause the dreams. We separated a year ago.
I guess I’m just looking for a little advice. This has been happening for about a month, so i really just want to help her know that everything is ok.
