Measuring Fetal Oxygen Does Not Reduce Caesarean Rate
“Measuring the amount of oxygen in the blood of a fetus during labor has no bearing on whether a Caesarean section is performed and does not affect the health of the newborn baby, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found in a multicenter study.”
Fetus oxygen has no bearing on Caesarean
“DALLAS, Nov. 24 (UPI) — Measuring the amount of oxygen in the blood of a fetus during labor has no bearing on whether a Caesarean section is performed, finds a U.S. study. Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas tested whether doctors’ knowledge of fetal blood-oxygen levels, measured through fetal pulse oximetry, made a difference in the rate of Caesarean section or condition of the newborn infant.”
Search continues for effective fetal monitor
“If uteruses had windows, doctors would have a relatively easy time keeping an eye on how fetuses coped with their end of the birth process. Fortunately, most, sight unseen, do just fine. “To try to find the fetus who is having problems is a little bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” says Steven Bloom, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.”

This is important for people to see this, because if there were less fetal monitoring during labor, a woman could move about more freely and wouldn’t be restricted to one position in the bed- and under most circumstances would have a quicker delivery!
