Are you a strict mommy when it comes to food?

I asked you this question because…

authoritarian approaches to parenting can lead to overweight children, a new study finds. [msnbc.msn.com]

So, what’s the best thing to do to avoid overweight children?

Get an eating rule and be flexible about it.

But, what about being a mother of picky eaters?

As Shannon’s heart goes to them, my heart does, too. Also, I have done this trick with my son, Jerome, who sometimes can be a frustrating picky eater–not like her sister, Olivia, who can eat anything at all!–and it was a success.

Every night before he goes to sleep, I tell him a story using vegetables and fruits as the characters. After I finish the story, I ask him which his favorite character is. If he says Mr. Tomato, I’ll cook something with tomato the next day. If he says Ms. Banana, the following day, he’ll happily enjoy his banana smoothies!

Well, it’s a tricky one, yet it almost always works.

Good luck!
