Only do it when you feel right about it
When she started her kindergarten, Olivia was being the most shy little girl. Well, some kids also didn’t leave the mother but there were also those who were very brave and enjoying their time in the class without looking back to check if mommy was around.
I was allowed to accompany her only for two days. The teacher said that her problem was only being shy, not being scared. So, it could be solved a lot sooner.
The night before the third day, I talked to her, right before she slept.
“Well, you’re supposed to be a big girl now…”
“I am,” she said loudly.
“Not yet…you’re a half big girl.”
“But I am…”
“No, you’re not…you’ll be a big girl soon, anyway, only if…” I halted.
“Only if what, Mom?”
“Only if you can walk into your class tomorrow, by yourself…”
“I can.”
“I’m not sure.”
“You’ll see…I’ll be a big girl! Tomorrow, you’ll see I am.”
“Well, prove it…”
I know…I was manipulating my daughter.
But, only because I want the best for her. And, I only did it because I knew it was the right time to help her be more independent to me. I knew she could do it and I challenged her.
Just like PHAT Mommy with her son, Luke. She waited until she felt the time was right. People told her to cut the cord, that he needed to be “away” from her. But, she only did it when the time was right.
Just follow your heart with this one. Mom knows best! Good luck!

I feel so sad reading this. My kidneys failed last september and I was hospitalized for 2 weeks. I missed my son’s first day of school altogether! He was almost suspended for fighting too. He is not a fighter either, I think he was just so stressed out with my being in the hospital. And he stayed with 3 different family members during that time also.
However I did follow my heart when his teacher wanted him to repeat kindergarden. I chose to have him go to grade 1 and maybe get tutoring on the side.
