Try craigslist and. The Freecycle groups in my area ALWAYS have baby clothes for free. You can also try Goodwill, they usually have a lot of good condition clothes for really cheap. Yard sales are great too, and once it starts warming up some more, lots of people will be doing spring cleaing and getting rid of stuff!

Ebay is also good, but I don't always like not being able to see them before I pay for them. Also, I've found some stuff on sale super-cheap at Target, but you have to be patient and keep checking to see what they have. In between seasons is probably the best time to get things on sale.

Believe it or now, used is not always your best bet. Children's place, Target, and Walmart have new things for almost free sometimes, when they are having a good clearance. In fact, walmart and target are cheap all the time, clearance or not.

Both of my sons were large at birth, and as a result, very few of their newborn outfits that I received at my shower or purchased myself fit! They didn't even wear newborn diapers...we started out in size 1. :) What you need to remember is that babies grow incredibly fast during their first year. My boys (and everyone I know who has kids) always wore a size larger than their age. For example, if the boy is 3 months old, he won't be wearing the 0 - 3 months size, he'll probably be in the 3 - 6 months size. At one year old, he'll be wearing 18 months, etc. It also has to do with the manufacturer of the clothes. I've noticed out of all the clothes we have now (or had for them as infants) Target's house brand (Circo) fit the best. When they were 9 months old, for example, they actually wore size 9 months in Circo clothing.

I'd definitely skip buying newborn stuff. Everyone gets a TON of it, and I really don't know who dresses their newborn up on a daily basis in cute little outfits. Most women realize that comfort and ease of changing is far more important than having something cutesy. :) I'm guessing your friend will get a ton of t-shirts and onesies too. Pretty pointless since the baby will be born in December. :) Unless she dresses her baby in layers (which most pediatricians don't recommend) she'll have no use for them.

If *I* were in your shoes, I'd get a really cute summer outfit for the boy in a size 6 - 9 months.

Definitely buy clothes that he can grow in to. My son mostly wore little onsies, or pj's as a newborn. Maybe buy her some cute summer outfits for her son, that she could utilize in June. There on sale now also, so you could find some good deals! Look for 6-9 months sizes, since he'll be six months old in June. Maybe find an outfit with a cute hat, since he'll need one to protect his face from the sun!
