    PREGNANCY & CHILDBIRTH

Pregnancy during the Third Trimester: Get Yourself Prepared

” You must also maintain your breast milk supply by consuming nutritious foods and beverages, having enough rest, and leaving your stress behind. ”

    by Adwina Jackson

Your pregnancy reaches its last stage now. It’s between week 28 to week 40. During these three months, you’ll get more excited as the baby in the womb makes more obvious moves than those on the previous months.

Enjoy it and relax! The excitement may come soon.

Now what happen in the third trimester? Here are the symptoms:

    1. Frequent Urination

You will urinate frequently just like you do in the first trimester. It’s due to the pressure to your pelvis caused by the baby’s movement. Sometimes it is hard to control it when you sneeze, laugh, or cough.

    2. Stretch Marks

Almost every woman gets stretch marks when she’s pregnant. These are purple or pink streaks occurred on lower belly, buttocks, and thighs. Excessive weight gain is one of the causes of stretch marks.

    3. Back Pain

You’ve probably have had this symptom back in the first trimester. This time, it is probably harder for you to cope with this since you are carrying a growing baby in your belly.

    4. Weight Gain

You’ll gain weight, normally, between 5 - 10 pounds in this trimester. Until your due date, it’s normal if your weight is between 25 - 35 pounds more than before you’re pregnant. Don’t worry as the amniotic fluid, the placenta and uterus also account for this development.

    5. Swollen Ankles

It happens because the growing uterus affects the pressure on the veins. It’s perfectly normal to have swollen ankles in this stage of pregnancy. Lay your legs on a higher position than your head to reduce the swelling. However, if it gets worse, consult your health care provider.

    6. Braxton-Hicks Contractions

Surely you won’t be comfortable with the above symptoms. Relieve your stress by talking with your baby inside.

Also, arrange some time to buy apparels and other things to prepare for the baby. The seventh or eighth month of your pregnancy is the perfect time to do this.

Don’t wait ’til the ninth month as the baby’s weight inside can make you fatigued, especially if you do things exaggeratedly.

Take your husband with you so both of you can choose your favorites for the baby. Or, ask your girl friends to come with you. Besides shopping, spend some time together for a lovely chat with them. You’ll be home in vigorous feeling.

About your baby’s things, make sure they are washed and ready. Clean up your room and the baby’s (if you want him or her in a separate room) and design it as you wish. When the baby comes home, it should all be prepared.

Prepare your hospital bag, too. Some clothes for you and the baby during your stay in the hospital and when you’re going home, some snacks, and a CD player with your favorite albums are some items you can carry in the bag.

You must also maintain your breast milk supply by consuming nutritious foods and beverages, having enough rest, and leaving your stress behind. That’s why storing easy-to-prepare meals is another essential matter you should do before the D-day.

Don’t forget to visit your health care provider for a routine check-up. All in all, relax when the time comes and enjoy the whole new experience with your new family.

    BABIES

    Treating Your Baby’s Roseola

Your baby has roseola? What is it and what are the symptoms?

  • Your baby has a high fever (often over 103°F), commonly for three to seven days.
  • When the fever breaks, there will be flat and rather bumpy red spots over your baby’s body, mostly on his or her belly and chest.
  • Caused by virus, Roseola is contagious and is passed via saliva, runny nose, or cough. What’s the proper treatment for this childhood’s common illness?
  • There’s no special treatment for this viral illness unless to deal with your baby’s high fever.
  • Give your baby acetaminophen to bring the fever down.
  • Give your baby lots of liquid (breast milk or water) to prevent dehydration caused by the fever.
  • No urgency to go to a doctor or pediatrician.Do you have parenting tips to share with others? Simply let us know by replying this email.
    TODDLERS & PRESCHOOLERS

    Limit Your Toddlers’ Candies Intake

Your little kids just won’t stop eating candies. Be worried about their dental health.

Take these tips to stop their bad habit:

  • It may be impossible to stop your children from eating sweets. What you need to do is to limit the amount for each day. Give them one or two portions of sweet foods or snacks, either one or two candies, one or two pieces of biscuits, or a cup of ice cream.
  • Be consistent with your rule. If your children ask for more, tell them that they have enough sweets for that day.
  • Introduce them to healthful foods, such as fresh fruits, sandwich, and fruit mixed with plain yoghurt.
  • To encourage your children to eat those healthful snacks, you have to consume them, too and tell your children that they have a delightful taste as well.
  • Ask your children to brush their teeth after eating those sweets.Do you have parenting tips to share with others? Simply let us know by replying this email.

    EDUCATION

How to Teach Your Baby to Read

” Later on when they get older, children absorb a lot of information and perform unexpected, funny things we’ve never thought they would do. ”

    by Adwina Jackson

Teaching your baby to read? You probably think it’s ludicrous. A baby reads? How come?

Well, the answer is: yes, it’s possible. You may not realize that babies are smarter than we imagine.

They develop miraculously. Starting from the moment of birth, babies learn to cry and adapt to their atmosphere. They cry when they’re hungry or uneasy with the clothes parents put on them.

Later on when they get older, children absorb a lot of information and perform unexpected, funny things we’ve never thought they would do. And they get the knowledge by reading.

Here’s the secret, actually. And indeed, it’s the secret which Glenn Doman found out throughout his researches. He believes that parents can teach their babies to read at a very young age, even before they reach the first year of life.

    Who is Glenn Doman?

He established The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential in 1955 and began to set up researches about children’s brain.

The Institutes, according to the website (www.iahp.org), is the nonprofit educational organization that serves parents and children. It introduces parents to the field of child brain development. Parents learn how the brain grows and how to speed and enhance that growth.

The key to this is to give children visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation with increased frequency, intensity, and duration.

In his book, How to Teach Your Baby to Read, Doman proves how easy it is to teach children to read and how powerful the benefits of reading in early childhood are both for parents and children.

“Reading” to babies here means to stimulate visual ability and not to understand the words and to state them verbally.

What is This Glenn Doman Method?

It’s teaching babies to read by the following steps:

    * Write one word in big clear letters on one firm white paper

    * Categorize words in several groups, such as color, fruit, and animal

    * Put at least five words for each category, for example red, blue, yellow, green, black (first group) and apple, banana, tomato, orange, strawberry (second group)

    * Read the words in clear loud voice

    * Read three categories in one day

    * Do it three times a day for each group

    * Create other categories for the days to come and repeat the above steps

Those are the steps of one-word teaching. The next ones are:

    * two-word lesson (red book, long time),

    * simple sentence lesson (daddy is writing, jimmy is running),

    * long sentence lesson (michael is eating a green apple, the kid is sitting on the couch),

    * and the last one is reading books.

Remember that you shouldn’t perform this process if you and your babies are not in good condition. Make sure your babies aren’t hungry or tired at that moment. You have to be cheerful during the time.

Your babies may not be able to read or understand those words yet, but they keep the information in their memory, in the brain, which absorbs any information like a sponge.

Once they can speak, be ready with the way they bombard you with endless vocabulary.

Besides enhancing your babies’ intelligence, of course there are other benefits of teaching your baby to read. It creates a special, intimate bond with your babies, develops their imagination, and establishes reading and learning as interests all through your kids’ life.

Cherish every moment with your loved ones!

    TEENS

Help Your Teens Unravel Their Obesity

Sure this can be hard for you, since your teens may ignore your idea.

    Try these tips out:

    * Avoid telling them to ‘lose weight’. Remind them to always stay healthier instead.

    * Tell your teens that you love them no matter how they look like. They will feel secure because they still have you to lean on whenever they have problems.

    * Ask them if there’s something you can do to help them get healthier. Suggest them to exercise by going to the gym with their friends.

    * Try not to exceedingly limit their food intake, but constantly tell them to eat healthily.

    * Be a role model. If you live a healthy lifestyle, your teens could follow it.

    * Your teens may refuse your assistance. Don’t push it on them, but tell them that you’ll be there whenever they change their mind.

What is a mother to you?

Want to Know What a Mother to Her Child REALLY is?

    I’m asking the world…
The answer will open your eyes!

From the desk of Adwina Jackson
    Bradenton, Florida

Mother’s Day is coming. This reminds me of my wonderful teacher in 4th grade. One day before the special day, she asked the whole class a very important question, “What is a mother to you?”

We were silent. Everybody was definitely having something in mind. I had one myself.

Then she told us, “Write a 5-word answer in a piece of paper.”

We did what she told us. The day after Mother’s Day, we were all asked to tell what we wrote and how our mother reacted on our writing. It was fun. But I wonder if their answers are still the same up ‘til now…

What about you, have you ever been asked the question so far? ”WHAT IS A MOTHER TO YOU?”

Every year, on Mother’s Day, I take a moment to see if my answer of the question posed by the teacher has changed. But then after I was a mother myself, I realized that I felt more love for her after my giving birth to my son.

But, what about the men? They can’t be a mother first to feel the love towards their mother…I wonder what they have in mind when they hear the magic word, MOTHER.

Some people’s thought of a mother’s existence differs from one another. The range is quite wide.

I discussed this with my fellow editors. I asked them the question. Yes, their answers were so various yet such a little number for the real one. So, all of us here in InsParenting.com would like to know more from other people.

We’re sure all of you have different ideas of answering the question. We’d really like to know it more than anything. What about you?

We believe you’d like to know the answer as much as I do. So, now, please give your answer to the question below…

“WHAT IS A MOTHER TO YOU?”

After you answer the above question by submitting it in the box below, you’ll automatically go to a special page where you can securely enter your name and e-mail address for a special gift. The next thing you know, you’ll be receiving the answers submitted by other people all over the world.

Don’t worry…we all hate spam, we won’t share your e-mail or name with ANYONE for any reason at all. Your answer and information are 100% safe with us.
