Blog of The Week!

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I’ve just found this story written last Tuesday. And, I’m totally touched.

It’s Jen’s experience when she met this mother with a baby boy in the box with four very big names. It’s a very touching story. A story deserving an award.

So, Jen, your blog is our BLOG OF THE WEEK.

Not only for the beauty of your story, but also for your kindness toward the mother of the boy.

Good Ole Cook has something special in her blog last Wednesday.

November 27, 2006 is her Mom & Dad’s 40th wedding anniversary… Wow! That is almost unbelievable! 40 years of marriage!

However, she is planning for a surprise anniversary party for her beloved parents tomorrow (November 18). I’m sure that it’s going to be an unforgettable celebration for all of the family.

She has set up everything since about 4 months ago with her siblings. Please have a look at her blog to see what they’ve been doing :).

You are absolutely correct, Good Ole Cook…. This is a HUGE accomplishment. 40 years of marriage!

And for this very extraordinary moment, your family’s special day, I am pleased to choose your blog as the Blog of the Week.

May your parents live happily ever after …
and may their children have a strong and loving marriage
as their Mom and Dad’s…

Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary!

Blog of the Week

So Close is absolutely perfect for the Blog of the Week award.

Tertia in South Africa touches my heart so deeply today. And I’m sure that most of you will get the same feeling when you read what you’ll read.

She shared her heart about the loss of her first child, Ben, and how she has coped with the grief. I shed my tears while reading about Baby Ben. Every beautiful word Tertia wrote is a word of encouragement and love… So deep and graceful…

Another beautiful and precious thought in her post was about the nurse who had been with her through the difficult times when Ben was born. Here is what I took from her blog (I hope you don’t mind with this, Tertia) … :

I got an email in my inbox today from the nurse who took care of Ben while he was still alive, who prayed over him while he lay there fighting for his life, and who prepared him so gracefully for his death. She is the nurse who gently removed all the IV lines, the ventilator tube; who carefully wiped away the bits of stickiness left over from the Band-Aids and sticky tape, and who dressed him for the first and last time in a little yellow baby sleeper. She placed him in my arms so that I could hold him for the first, and last time. And once he had died, she took him from me again and prepared him to be taken away.

After Ben had died, she was so gentle and kind and helpful. She helped me with the terrible details of where his little body should go, which funeral home would collect him etc – the horrendous admin of death. She honestly helped me so much. She gave my son and I dignity in his death. I will forever be grateful to her for that. I thought of her often in the year after his death.

Please come over to her blog and read all about it.

Tertia, I don’t know what you’ll think about this. I mean, I have no intention to put this into depreciation. Neither do I have a crown nor a trophy, but I have this Blog of the Week Award. I thought maybe you can tell the nurse that this Blog of the Week Award is not only a tribute to you and Baby Ben, but also to her. This is her award too…

There are not many like her. She’s special.

So was your baby prince, Ben. He is still.

May he rest in peace in Heaven …

Thank you so much for this beautiful post, Tertia…

Yesterday, November 2, 2006, was Emily’s 23rd birthday.

She is the daughter of Sylvia Vardell, a Professor at Texas Woman’s University. That’s really amazing!

And, on this very special day, Sylvia bestowed a very beautiful poem for her beloved daughter. It’s The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost.

I don’t know if any of you have read this poem. But, to me, it’s so deep. Frost wrote it in lovely rhymes The poem really means a lot.

Here’s my most favorite part of the poem - the last part…

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I’m sorry if this sounds too personal, but I have to admit that this poem is one of my favorites, just like Sylvia’s. I knew this poem since I was in college. Ever since the first time I read it, it was like I wanted to read it again and again and try to remember the lines…

Thank you, Sylvia, for bringing back the memory…
and for sharing your love to your daughter in your blog…
and most of all, for being such a poetic mama …
It’s truly beautiful……

Happy birthday to Emily!

And, congratulations, Professor Vardell! You’ve been chosen as the Blog of the Week! :)
