Why People Need Vitamins

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Vitamins are essential for the normal growth and development of a multicellular organism. Using the genetic blueprint inherited from its parents, a fetus begins to develop, at the moment of conception, from the nutrients it absorbs. It requires certain vitamins and minerals to be present at certain times. These nutrients facilitate the chemical reactions that produce among other things, skin, bone, and muscle. If there is serious deficiency in one or more of these nutrients, a child may develop a deficiency disease. Even minor deficiencies may cause permanent damage.

Once growth and development are completed, vitamins remain essential nutrients for the healthy maintenance of the cells, tissues, and organs that make up a multicellular organism; they also enable a multicellular life form to efficiently use chemical energy provided by food it eats, and to help process the proteins, carbohydrates, and fats required for respiration.

Dieting with Superfood

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Superfood is a term sometimes used to describe food with high phytonutrient content that may confer health benefits as a result. For example, blueberries are often considered a superfood (or superfruit) because they contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese, and dietary fiber. Now, superfoods are also used as ingredients for weight loss pills. One example of weight loss pills that contains superfoods is lipovox. It is said to have 10 superfoods that can, hand in hand, help losing weight while also increasing health in general. The 10 superfoods in this product are brazilian acai, cayenne pepper fruit, garlic, soybean isoflavones, barley, wheatgrass, lactobacillus acidophilus, alfalfa sprouts, flaxseed, and buckwheat. While anyone can always try to find the superfoods instead of taking the pills, it is quite hard, and not to mention costly, to get all those superfoods ingredients in the market.

Colon Cleansing – Does It Really Work?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Colon cleansing (colon therapy) encompasses a number of alternative medical therapies intended to remove fecal waste and unidentified toxins from the colon and intestinal tract. Does colon cleansing really work? No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing. The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs or disease, cleans itself naturally without need for assistance. Some types of colon cleansing present potential hazards; the equipment used during colon cleansing has caused damage to the rectum in a small number of individuals, and caused amoebiasis when improperly sterilized. So, if one’s body condition makes it necessary to do some colon cleansing, the most important thing to do is find colon cleanse products that have great reputation and have received positive consumer feedbacks.

What Is Acne?

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Although acne is so familiar all through our life, some people still do not really what really acne is and what causes it? Now, acne is basically a disease that involves the oil glands of the skin. It is not dangerous, but can leave skin scars. Your skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to oil glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles – small canals. Sebum, an oily liquid, is produced by these glands. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of your skin. Pimples grow when these follicles get blocked.

And that is why washing our face is very crucial to clean it, remove dead skin cells, as well as to remove excess oil on our face. For us who have problems with acne, some serious acne treatment is very important.

Foods from plant sourcesImage via Wikipedia

If we determine to do some weight loss programs, there are ways to do that, though combining several ways is recommended. The first way is of course doing exercise on regular basis. Whichever program we choose, doing exercise is a must to make the weight loss a healthy one. The second way is to take appetite suppressant. This is voted as the second way, since most women who need to loose weight have problems in controlling their eating habits. And the third way to have a healthy weight loss is to only eat healthy food. Eating only healthy and natural food while also avoiding eating too fatty foods or foods with too high carb will lead to loose weight and keep us away from any high cholesterol problems.

What Is Dietary Supplement?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Unlike what most people think, that diet supplements are considered mostly for dieting in terms of weight loss, the terms actually have far broader definition and inclusion. A dietary supplement, also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supply nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fatty acids or amino acids, that are missing or are not consumed in sufficient quantity in a person’s diet.
