Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

Ooo… did I say it twice? Yes, I did. ‘Cause there were two birthdays that I’m happy with. Two birthdays which were only three days apart. Birthdays of One Tall Momma’s beautiful daughters!

Thus, the Blog of the Week award goes to her. Congratulations!

She’s a divorced mother of 4 wonderful children. Again, the two birthdays were her daughters. Her first and her second. It must have been an amazing week for all of them!

What makes it special is that the first daughter, the blue-eyed, Samantha, as her mother wrote, is the first born daughter of a first born daughter of a first born daughter of an only child, a daughter. She’s special!

Moreover, Samantha was born after her momma had to go through an infertility treatment.

Then, two years after, the green-eyed girl, Eleanor, was born. What makes her special is actually about her momma’s feeling. By the time Eleanor came into the world, her momma was ready to welcome a new baby, but she was not sure of her heart. She asked herself … Did I have room in my heart to love another the way I loved my first?

Well, I think there are other moms out there who had the same feeling with their second child. Would they love the second child as much as they love the first?

Then, finally, her mother did find a room for her. And it grew, as the baby did.

Oh… beautiful!

Your girls are truly the gifts and blessings, mama!

Happy birthday to Samantha and Eleanor…

How to Enhance Your Children’s Language Skill

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Language skill develops through daily activities. Children learn from their surroundings: from parents’ words and from what their parents teach.

It is best to stimulate them as early as possible. There are some ways to enhance your children’s language skill.

1. Respond spontaneously - Whenever your children show their expressions, it is the best moment to respond them. They learn new words from you.

2. Do it slowly - Your child needs some time to respond your expression. Do it slowly and clearly.

3. Teach by instructions - For example: “Kiss Mommy!” or “Wave at Daddy!” Don’t forget to show a cheerful expression while doing this.

4. Talk about the environments - It is your job to introduce them to new things in their surroundings. Let them be familiar with the atmosphere, such as the wind breeze, the hot air, the bird’s singing, etc.

5. Stimulate them frequently - Don’t hesitate to take your children into a discussion. It doesn’t have to be in a particular time. You can open a conversation, for example, during breakfast or dinner, about how they like their meal.

By stimulation, you’ll find your children enhance their language skill. However, you should keep in mind that if they are not eager to say/express something, it does not mean they are not listening or learning. May be they are not in a good mood. Try some other time and keep stimulating them.

A Triplets Mom’s Pregnancy Story

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

It is always exciting to read about a pregnancy story, especially if it’s the one of a mom who has been trying to have babies for several years.

Today, I found out that Jen3@AmazingTriplets just shared her story while she was pregnant with her triplets. It’s amazing! It’s fun!

William, Elizabeth, and Carolyn were born two years ago. Their mommy conceived on the third round of IVF + ICSI, which was about 8 years of planning.

I bet it’s very interesting to get to know about their story.

Thanks so much for sharing, mama.

Oooh.. and Happy Birthday to your little angels :).

The Love of a Mom

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

How is the relationship between you and your mother going? I know there are difficult times between the two of you. It’s not unavoidable. I know you love your mom very much. She even loves you more.

The love of a mom is never-ending. Her love shines forever. From time to time. For you. For your children.

As a daughter, it’s really amazing to have a beautiful relationship with your mother. Melany (Supermom) thanks her mom in beautiful words she shares over her blog.

And this one is beautiful:

“I hope that one day I will have the honour to have such a vital part in my grandchildren’s lives - that I will be able to - that I’ll have the love and patients that my mom has for my kids.”

Thank you so much for sharing your feeling, Melany.

What about you, mamas? Wanna share yours? :)

How to Avoid Your Kids from Choking

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Babies and toddlers can get choked easily. When this happens, parents usually get panic.

What can you do to avoid your little ones from choking?

1. Use age-appropriate tools for eating and drinking.

2. Try not to talk or laugh with your babies/toddlers while giving them something to eat or drink.

3. Never ever give drink to your children if they don’t sit upright.

4. Manage the volume of liquids or food into their mouth as appropriate with their swelling ability.

5. Avoid giving foods that can be hazards to your children. Some of them are peanut butter, raisins, nuts, hard candies, and popcorn.
