News – Fetal Monitor

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Measuring Fetal Oxygen Does Not Reduce Caesarean Rate
“Measuring the amount of oxygen in the blood of a fetus during labor has no bearing on whether a Caesarean section is performed and does not affect the health of the newborn baby, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have found in a multicenter study.”

Fetus oxygen has no bearing on Caesarean
“DALLAS, Nov. 24 (UPI) — Measuring the amount of oxygen in the blood of a fetus during labor has no bearing on whether a Caesarean section is performed, finds a U.S. study. Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas tested whether doctors’ knowledge of fetal blood-oxygen levels, measured through fetal pulse oximetry, made a difference in the rate of Caesarean section or condition of the newborn infant.”

Search continues for effective fetal monitor
“If uteruses had windows, doctors would have a relatively easy time keeping an eye on how fetuses coped with their end of the birth process. Fortunately, most, sight unseen, do just fine. “To try to find the fetus who is having problems is a little bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” says Steven Bloom, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.”

25 Reasons Why Babies Cry
By Thomas Choo

By the first cry he will take some air into the lungs for the first time in their life. It is obvious that the healthy baby should cry.

We all know that a baby can’t tell his needs or troubles. The only way for him to communicate with others is by crying. Babies show some other signals like feet kicking, hand waving and head turning. But the easiest way to capture the attention of others is by crying. (more…)

Children With Cerebral Palsy Can Look Forward To Improved Quality Of Life
“Deakin University is taking the global lead in improving the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy. Dr Elise Davis and Professor Elizabeth Waters from Deakin’s School of Health and Social Development have developed a world-first questionnaire aimed at determining if treatments for children with cerebral palsy improve their overall wellbeing, not just their mobility.”

Despite cerebral palsy, music was the inspiration for John Rantz
“John Michael Rantz never told his family he loved them, but he showed them with his eyes. He died peacefully in his sleep Nov 4, at age 48, without ever speaking a word. Born with cerebral palsy, his body failed him, but his family never let the disease hinder their love for their son.”

By Adriana Copaceanu

Everyone loves a special gift on their birthday: especially our kids! I have put together a list of 10 memorable gifts you can gift your children on their birthday without breaking the bank.

  1. Art supplies: almost all kids enjoy crayons, markers, stickers, colored pencils, gel pens, special papers and scissors, sidewalk chalk, water colors, homemade rubber stamps, “how to draw” books calligraphy instructions, or origami instructions and colored paper. An art supply gift not only encourages the youngsters to use their imagination, but it can be an extra treat when you spend time with them using them.
  2. Books are always great gifts for any age: you can get musical or squeaky books for the little ones, short stories for preschoolers, adventure books for 9-11 year olds, and so on: there is a book for every taste. You can also buy books about your child’s interests, books about careers, etc. (more…)
