Your Birth Control Options

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

There are several reasons that make you not prepared to have a baby or another baby. After all, although it is actually fun and exciting, we have to admit that pregnancy and parenting is serious responsibility. Whatever the reasons are, there are some options that you can use for birth control.

Perhaps, the most popular and most well-known birth control method is that of condoms. Condoms, in most cases, are highly effective against preventing pregnancy. On rare occasions, they can break or leak, but you are typically safe.  Just be sure to purchase a brand of condoms that is known for their strength and durability.  What is nice about this popular birth control method, is that you are often not only protected against pregnancy, but sexually transmitted diseases as well.

Birth control pills are a hormonal form of birth control.  Birth control pills require the taking of a pill each and everyday of the month. Birth control pills are known as being effective, as long as they are taken as directed. As with many other medications, birth control pills are not ideal for smokers, as they may cause additional health complications.

Aside from condoms and birth control, the next most popular form of birth control is another hormonal method. This birth control method is commonly referred to as the Depo shot. The Depo shot has one main downfall and that is that it has been linked to a poor absorption of calcium. That is why many Depo users are urged to take calcium supplements each day. What is nice about the Depo shot is that it is not only effective at preventing pregnancy, but it is also administered on a three-month schedule and periods are often a thing of the past.

Although not as popular as condoms, the Depo shot, and birth control pills, IUDs are also effective forms of birth control.  IUDs are known as Intra-Uterine Devices.  Intra-Uterine Devices (IUDs) come in a number of different formats, but they are still designed to protect you from pregnancy. This is either done with the use of a copper device, which is spermicidal, or ones that release progestin.

All are great and effective. It all depends on our preference and our body acceptance. Some methods are doing great for some people, while other people have complaints about that same methods. Have a try first, then.

What Do I Know about Computer?

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Well, I am only computer users. I don’t understand much about how system actually works or how to install any hardwares. However, I know that when my computer starts to work too slowly, then it is probably that my computer memory is full and need to be upgraded.

Since I know nothing about installation of RAM upgrade, the best way is to find computer memory in the internet. We can see that some stores provide choices of memory with different capacity as well as the installation services. Now, all we need to do is to choose one that will suit my computer and give them a call. Just make it simple!

Summer Holiday and Weight Loss

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Do you know the connection between summer school holiday and weight loss? Well, first of all, since the kids are around all the time, we need to entertain them and go to several interesting places. That means lots of eating out (and more junk food, since most children love them), eating ice creams, barbeques, and more. Not to mention that holiday makes us want to cook the kids some special dishes. And when we cook something special, it means that we also end up eating more.

So, if you want to balance them with some diet pills, here is a recommendation for weight loss pills. Find combination of pills that can boost metabolism, block carb and fat, and suppress our appetite. We’d better hurry, before we pile too much fat in our body that cannot be removed easily.

Childhood Obesity

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Do you think that fat and chubby babies and children are signs that they are healthy kids and considered cute? Not necessarily!

Many more children between the ages of two years old and five years old are already on there way to becoming the next generation of obese teens, and eventually obese adults and obese seniors. With obesity being one of the leading causes of morbidity, disability, discrimination, and employment problems, it has become one of the biggest public problems since tobacco use and exposure. Although playing a major role, bad eating and exercise habits are not the only culprit; some genetic diseases that can predispose children to become overweight cannot be forgotten.

Professionals are treating this as a major public health concern that is threatening to damage our most precious resources, the children. Introduction of healthy play, healthy food choices, and recreation that promotes physical activity is on the top of the list for discussion and plans of battling this epidemic. Having caretakers take pro active measures to keep the child on the right track and setting good examples are key elements to helping these children to learn a healthier behavior and attitude towards their own health.

A survey has come to the conclusion that as many as one third of U.S. children are overweight or at high risk for childhood obesity. The health problems that will begin to manifest themselves from the heavy weight of such young children will start kids down a road the problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and increased risks of diabetes. These are diseases usually reserved to adults, not children. Combating this troubling condition must however, begin at home with the caregivers for these children. Improving overall diet, not dieting, and exercise is the key to resolving the problem. Protecting children’s health now and in the future will depend greatly on education of parents and caregivers to implement healthy daily living strategies.

Theme Parks are Always the Best!

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

disney minnie.jpgAll of the children is in holiday now. Since they usually are quite busy, this holiday season makes them quite restless. Of course we can give them several things to do. But, we also need to take them somewhere so that they will have very enjoyable and unforgettable holiday. And, well, when we ask them where to go, they will answer in unity … theme parks! From years to years, many parents will agree that theme parks are always the best place to entertain the children during school holidays.

And talking about theme parks, Orlando vacations are still the most favorite ones. There are so many theme parks in Orlando, from Disney, Universal Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Seaworld, and several more. And I think it is worth it. School holiday season is the time for us to entertain our kids, right?

Indian Dance Performance

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

On 21 June 2008, Shayna’s school held graduation ceremony for Kindy 2 and art performance for the whole kindergarten students. The theme was Global Warming, with several dances from around the world. Shayna and her other 19 friends got the Indian dance part. The dance was quite dynamic and exciting. And Shayna did her dance very well. We, as her parents, were really proud of her independence and self confidence during her dance performance and during her year of Shayna at Kindy 1.

Any Other Ideas for Bridesmaid Gifts?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

pashmina.jpgI’m helping one of my best friends in planning and preparing her wedding. Some things like wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, wedding cake, invitation, and venue are well planned in advance, from some months ago. We even have created the souvenirs for guests in great details.

However, there are always last minute things that we forget to prepare but necessary. The example is the gifts for bridesmaids and bridesgrooms, as symbol of our appreciation and special thanks to them. Some ideas for bridesmaid gifts are something general, useful, and beautiful like pashmina shawl, wraps, and scarfs, purses, bags, or simple jewelry. Any other ideas for these bridesmaid gifts?

Mesothelioma and Asbestos

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Do you know that exposure to asbestos can cause cancer called mesothelioma? It is quite worrying. This mesothelioma attacks the membranes that surround many of the body’s vital organs. The most common form of this cancer is pleural mesothelioma, where the cancer attacks the pleural tissue surrounding the lung.

Although we don’t hear of this cancer too often, it is not rare among individuals exposed to asbestos, with about two to three thousand new diagnoses every year! Tragically, most victims who got the cancer were exposed to asbestos in the workplace without even been warned of that risk by the company. However, some were exposed through family members who bought asbestos home on their clothes, while some got is through home renovation projects. Much more tragic, right?

So, it will do us much good if we understand this situation and beware from now on.

Baby Solid Food: What to Eat and When

Monday, June 16th, 2008

With all of the varying advice on feeding your baby, you may just want to breastfeed forever.  Though you should always consult your doctor for the latest information on baby food, there are a few things you should expect in the first year.

When to introduce solids

Most doctors agree that solids should be introduced somewhere between four and six months.  However, if you had an especially large baby at birth or a little boy with a big boy appetite, your doctor might recommend starting your baby on solid food as early as 3 months.

What is “solid” food?

The term “solid” food is a bit misleading.  Typically, one of the first “solid” foods you will introduce is rice cereal diluted with formula or breast milk.  This food is extremely runny doesn’t appear to have any solid properties about it.  As your baby adjusts to eating from a spoon, dilute her food with milk or formula.  This will also help your baby adjust to the new flavors in solid food.

How to introduce solid foods

The most important thing about introducing solid foods is that you introduce them one at a time and wait at least 3 days between new foods.  This way you can monitor for any allergic reactions because it can take up to three days for signs of allergy to show up.  Always check with your doctor, some doctors recommend waiting as long as 7 days between new foods.

First Foods

Although your baby’s first food with probably be cereal, you can start introducing fruits and vegetables around 6 to 7 months.  Some good first vegetables are:  sweet potatoes, peas, or carrots.  Try to stay away from fruits that are to acidic like orange or other citrus fruits.  But your baby probably would like banana, peach or applesauce at this stage.

Foods to stay away from

There are few key foods that you should never introduce until after the baby is 1 year old.  These include honey, fish, peanuts and strawberries.  All of these foods can cause severe allergic reactions and if given to your baby too early, she could develop an allergic reaction she wouldn’t otherwise have had.  There are a few other foods that won’t necessarily hurt your child but it is really unnecessary to introduce at this stage while they are still developing their tastes.  These foods include sugar, soda or anything not naturally sweet.

Protein foods

You will want to begin introducing protein foods to your baby around 7 to 8 months.  These foods might include meats, cottage cheese or beans.  Remember that your baby probably still doesn’t have any teeth, or at least not enough to chew anything so your baby’s food should still be mushy at this stage.

Eating for the first year

The most important thing to remember about eating during the first year is to introduce new foods one at a time.  Your baby’s first year is a year of discovery.  As your child tries new foods feeding time will be an enjoyable experience for baby and parents alike.
